H2S Safety Awareness

Home training-facility

H2S (hydrogen sulphide) is a gas formed by natural biological processes that poses a serious threat to people or assets due to its extreme toxic and corrosive properties. It is essential for any relevant personnel to be competent in emergency response practices necessary for them to stay and work in an environment with potential for exposure to H2S gas.

To attend this course, there are no prerequisites required. However, all 16 participants at the maximum per class are expected to be personnel that are, or could be, working in an environment that could become contaminated by H2S gas.

After training completion, participants are expected to fully capable in explain and demonstrating the following:

  • Hydrogen Sulphide roots
  • Other names, properties and characteristics for H2S
  • Measurement parameter and exposure limits to H2S
  • Types of detector equipment and respiratory equipment.
  • Pre-use checks of personal detection devices and EBA.
  • Operating personal H2S detection equipment.
  • Responding to an alarm.
  • Donning & operating an escape breathing apparatus (EBA) with a mask and a hood.
  • Connecting to a pressurised cascade breathing system with an activated EBA subject to correct donning.
